Slimtone Members Jumping For Joy

“When my friend asked me to be her bridesmaid, I knew I had to take myself in hand. Joining Slimtone is certainly one the best decisions I’ve ever made. I discovered that it’s not how much I was eating, it was what I was eating that makes a difference.”

Student and part-time Youth Worker, Rachel Watts has lost 8½ stone with help from Slimtone.

Before

After

The catalyst for me to lose weight was when my friend asked me to be her bridesmaid – I was thrilled but then suddenly thought about THE DRESS. I didn’t want to let her down, so decided I had to take myself in hand.

But how on earth was I going to lose weight? I really thought that I didn’t eat much and wondered what I’d have to do to lose those extra pounds. Like many people, I just didn’t have a clue. I was a bit sceptical, but thought that maybe a slimming class could help. So I went along to Slimtone.

Fantastic! Joining Slimtone is certainly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Even on that first week, I learned about healthy eating – I discovered that it’s not how much I was eating, it was what I was eating that makes a difference.

Slimtone has helped me to re-think what I eat and re-train my body. Losing weight has been a complete lifestyle change for me. I now know what to eat and have a very healthy diet. I structure my day and know what to have for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as my snacks. Out go all those fizzy drinks that I thought “didn’t count” and I drink lots of water – something that never entered my head before. I still have a night out with my friends, but drink vodka instead of alcopops, and always count everything I eat and drink. I also now do lots of exercise and really enjoy it. I’d never have thought about going to the gym when I was big, but as I’ve lost weight, I’ve gained confidence too.

It’s been great going to class every week too. Knowing that someone would weigh me, really kept me motivated. If I had to do it myself, I would just avoid going near the scales! Marie and the other members in the class are very supportive, with lots of tips and ideas and encouragement. I’ve joined the Slimtone Facebook Group too. My Slimtone Facebook friends were great when I needed extra encouragement during exam time in College, giving me tips to get through that stressful time.

I find the weekly hand-outs really helpful. There are lots of recipe ideas and I’ve learned about different foods. For example, I had no idea just how much salt there is in some foods. And I’ve just discovered sweet potatoes – another idea from the hand-outs. Sweet potato wedges are delicious and a much healthier (and tastier) option than a bag of crisps, I’m completely converted!

I’m amazed that I’ve lost so much weight – it’s been easy with Slimtone, I’ve never been bored and I love the comments from my friends and family. I’ve now lost 8½ stone which is what one of my friends weighs – just imagine it was like walking around carrying her all day every day! I just feel great – and you can too. Go on, try Slimtone, I know that like me you’ll never look back.

Rachel’s top tip – Always be prepared! Take a sandwich or fruit to work with you, so that you are never without food. That sandwich you buy could be as much as 600 calories!

Slimtone Celebrates 28 years of Success at Maesteg

Congratulations to Slimtone on 28 years of Success at Maesteg.

During the past 28 years Slimtone has had a recored number of success stories at their weekly class in the Masonic Hall,  Maesteg.

So many of the target members still visit the class on a regular basis to maintain their weight loss and to enjoy the warm welcome at the class.  Gail Adams is a wonderful inspiration to all the members she lost five stone over twenty years ago and is still looking great.

To celebrate the anniversary Marie has arranged for “Mark” to come along to both the morning and evening classes to demonstrate a few easy exercise which will help when losing weight.  Also,  to chat about the Zumba dance classes which he is organising for Maesteg Sport Centre.

There will also be a healthy eating buffet for everyone to enjoy.  You are welcome to come along and join in the celebrations on Tuesday 22nd June from 10.00-11.30am and Thursday 24th June  5.30 -700pm.  As a special anniversary offer there will be NO joining fee at these classes.

Look forward to seeing you.  For further details please contact Marie on 01656 870339 or

Diane Vincent launches her new Book

Diane Vincent of Maesteg has written a book called “Its Good To Talk”. The book is written partly about her Father, his illness and about how Diane cared for him while he suffered from Dementia.

I have written the book “It’s Good To Talk” with the intention that the information in my book would be useful to anyone who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. The book will also help them understand that it is good to talk to people about what they are going through, and the way they feel without feeling any embarrassment.

To order the book simply visit our website Unique Welsh Gifts .

Diane also needs volunteers on 23rd and 24th of june2010 to help with collection tins for our local Alzheimer’s society.

If any body could help the Alzheimer’s Society they would be grateful even if it’s for 2 hours or more to volunteer simply call Diane on 01656 732066
