Alzheimer’s and Dementia Group Maesteg & Bridgend

My name is Diane Vincent I belong to a fund raising group for Alzheimer’s and Dementia, I also belong to a support group for Alzheimer’s and Dementia which I helped to set up with a group of people I went on a course with to help us understand a little bit about it.

We meet the second Wednesday of every month at Evergreen hall in Bridgend and there is always one or two support workers from the Alzheimer’s society. They are on hand if anyone wants any information or to have a chat about their loved ones or just to have a cuppa and chill out for a couple of hours.
We have a raffle every time we meet and the money goes to the local Alzheimer’s Society to help local people in various ways.
There is also a drop in centre in 112-113 Bavo buildings in commercial street Maesteg every Tuesday at 9-30-12-30 anyone is welcome to come for information about Alzheimer’s or Dementia or just for a chat. You can contact Alzheimer’s society on 01656651490 for any more information.

Maesteg Cancer Research UK

The Maesteg Branch of Cancer Research UK was established in 1966. Since this date they have raised in excess of £250,000 for this very emotive Charity.

A proud boast is that they have only ever had two Chairmen, firstly the late Glyn Devine and its present Chairman, the ‘larger than life’, Anthony Mullins.

The Committee meet on the first Thursday of each month (except August) at Maesteg Harlequins RFC and are indebted to them for their hospitality and generosity afforded us.
If anyone is interested and you feel you can contribute some time to the Charity please join us at any of our meetings, you will be made most welcome.

Now in its 35th year, the choir is as busy as ever, with over 20 engagements during 2009, continuing to raise a tremendous amount of money for charity, and giving immense pleasure to thousands of people in venues throughout the UK.
This popularity has arisen out of its consistently high professional performance standards, a varied repertoire from a wide range of music genres and the support of loyal and very talented local guest artists who travel with us to provide a balanced concert programme.
The diary for 2010 is almost full with engagements across the UK and also a planned European Concert Tour.
The choir practices in the Maesteg Celtic Sports Club on Thursdays 7 – 9pm and new members are very welcomed. For more information email Roger at RogerDerrick@aol.com

The 3rd Maesteg Scout Troop

The 3rd Maesteg Scout Troop have, during the past year, been sailing, wall climbing, shooting, done archery, chopped down trees, lit fires, had bbqs and plenty of other events. They are now planning their camp in March (the Leaders say they are mad!) and looking forward to some more sailing and some scuba diving in the near future.

The Cubs are aged 8 to 10 and are also planning lots of fun things with their Leader. They have recently had a Chinese takeaway to celebrate Chinese New Year, and went to see a show over Christmas. They are currently planning their sleepover and a camp for later in the year. They also have a few trips lined up.

If you are a young person between the ages of 8 to 14, or an adult who would like to help out, please contact the Group Scout Leader, Carolyn Joseph-Waite on 07530172230 or email carolynjw29@yahoo.co.uk
